Get in the Belly!

Image
This past week was a week of REALLY GOOD FOOD!!! I just got done reading, My Life in France by Julia Child... So right now I'm a little obsessed with food. I went out to Senor Wong in St. Paul and had delightful morsels of Pollo al Pastor, Duck Bun Bao and Sweet Potato Fries. The Duck Bun Bao reminded me of the Peking Duck I had while spending my summer in China 7 years ago. So very tasty! Then the next night I went to my new favorite Thai restaurant, Sen Yai Sen Lek and OF COURSE I ordered the Pad Thai! My one and only love of my gastric life. I am a self proclaimed Pad Thai snob. I love love love it... and I have found another place to indulge in my passion! The following night i went to the MN State Fair. Pretty much the only reason I go is to... EAT! This is going to sound like little Miss Piggy-ish but here is a list of all the things I ate: Corn Dog Mini-Doughnuts Cheese Curds Buffalo Jerky French Fries in a (h)UGE cup Chocolate Covered Bacon! aka CHACON , dubbed by Kristina

Deep Thoughts for Thursday

Image
Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk. Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no Internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text. MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my n

☀Sunshine on my Face☀

Yesterday I was invited out on my friend's boat. We cruised around the lovely Lake Minnetonka. Just a bunch of girls enjoying the end of summer sun. I spent a lot of that time floating in the middle of the lake. Trying to be as still as I could, having the waves lap around me, the clouds float by and the glorious sun on my face. Peace. I thanked God for the beautiful day, for friends, for family, for life. I thought of my Aunt Sandy. And I thanked God that he is healing her body. I thought of Nie Nie , this beautiful lady I have never met, but I admire her strength so much. Go Nie Nie! I just had to smile at all the goodness that I was surrounded by. Life can get difficult, sad, and painful... But it can also be wonderful, abundant and full of grace. and Laughter. Thank God.

In My Backyard!

Image
****I posted this about 2 years ago and I thought it would be fun to post it again. Especially in light of the death of Michael Jackson.**** QUESTION: If you could have any three bands\performers, alive or dead, over to play in your backyard who would you choose? Who would i choose? I love such a variety of music from my past to my present. My choices? This is not going to be easy... But these are my 3 picks: The Grateful Dead w\ Jerry Garcia, For Beaner and Tweaker and the hippy days!!! Steal your face forever!!!! The Dead can jam on and on and they have the best sing along songs. Johnny Cash, cause who wouldn't want to dance to a rousing version of Ring of Fire and Folsom Prison Blues? I would die to hear A Boy Named Sue live!!! Micheal Jackson (post Jackson 5, pre-nose job)... couldn't you just see him with the glove bringing down the house with Thriller, Beat It and Billy Jean! Throw in the Moon Walk and girls (and guys) are gonna swoon! So... what bands would make your bac

I have my own Statue!!!

Image
I was just reading about this statue that was erected in my honor. It's called the Sabrina Statue and she lives at Amherst College. What an honor to have a statue named after me! Actually this is the real story as provided by the most reliable of sources, Wikipedia... In 1857, Amherst College accepted a gift from then Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, Joel Hayden – a bronze neo-classical sculpture named after Sabrina, Goddess of the Britons. It was not long before the scantily-clad Sabrina began to attract the attention of the then all-male Amherst student-body. Around 1860, an industrious Amherst student, in the first of many Sabrina-inspired pranks, stole a set of undergarments from of one the nearby female colleges, and used them to clothe Sabrina. The college administration harshly reprimanded the student, but the next morning, Sabrina appeared with a dent in her cheek, apparently inflicted by a blow from an ax. This first incident of chicanery inspired a series of other p

V is back!!!!

Image
Back in 1984 the show of all shows came out, "V". A creepy little campy show about a bunch of lizard alien people disguised as humans who came to earth to suck out all our water and kill and\or eat all the humans! I was 7 years old when this show came out, and I LOVED it. I loved when their skin would peel away and you would see grody lizard skin. Or the time when that girl delivered her half human\half lizard babies. One was a slimy alien baby and the other looked like a human, but when she went to hold it, it stuck her forked tongue out at her! (who doesn't love weird looking alien babies?!?!) So much to my surprise, I found out that ABC is bringing back a modern day version of V ! I know it won't be as good as the original, and I probably won't even watch it... but it's still fun to reminisce.

RIP John Hughes

Image
So Sad. I just found out that writer\director\movie maker extraordinaire John Hughes has died. I just love so many of his movies and each movie is memorable in different ways. I wanted to be in all of his movies. His characters were so real, so cool! Here is a list of some of my favorite Hughes films... Home Alone National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Uncle Buck She's Having a Baby Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Some Kind of Wonderful Ferris Bueller's Day Off! Pretty in Pink Weird Science The Breakfast Club Sixteen Candles (my favorite!!, I love you Jake Ryan) National Lampoons Vacation Mr. Mom

10,000 +

Minnesota is, The Land of 10,000 Lakes. But I am just going to be upfront and tell you that there are more than 10,000. Just so you all know that. They didn't want the barren dry states to get a complex... so they threw out a number like 10,000 to say, Yeah we have lakes, but just 10,000. (we really have 11,842). I think it just sounds better to say, The Land of 10,00 Lakes. How about we put on all our licence plates, The Land of 11,842 lakes? See, that sounds silly. Dontcha think, yaa you knOhw it! (yes sadly, we do talk like that sometimes, okay not sadly, it's really amusing!) You Betcha! Anyway, I spent the day today out on the boat on the lake. Yeah yeah, I know what you're thinking... "Isn't she supposed to be back at work and this "fun" business is supposed to be over?" True. But I took the day off! It takes me awhile to ease back into the work routine okay! Back to the lake. A lot of people in Minnesota, either: a. own a boat b. own a cabin
