Whatevs...

My last post was deeeep, and I don't want to be in that mode any longer. So I am going to write about Pegasus, the mythological horse that flies. When I was little my mom told me that all white horses would fly around at night, but you could never see them. I believed her too! And not only that, i was convinced that when I left my room all my toys came to life and had a party. I just had this suspicion and I would try to catch one or at least see if they moved even a hair, I never could catch them in action. When the movie Toy Story came out, I almost peed my pants! I wasn't the only one who believed toys came to life!

Nada!

Believe it or not, i have been out of words the past few days... but i have been thinking a lot and processing for me leaves me rather introspective to say the least. So this is really strange, but I don't know what to write about. I do have a sports related blog post in the works, but that is in development phase. So in the mean time, any suggestions on what to write about? I'll write about anything I am so desperate. I think this means I have writers block. Ouch.
Ok, I am back from lunch... and I had a few thoughts, but are they writeable? I don't know. I have been having a series of dreams all about the same person, but different situations. Last night in my dream I asked this person if they would consider running away with me, and they said, NO. But they also said that one of these days I will need to learn that running away will never solve the problems at hand. It is by staying and facing these problems that I will become the best version of myself. What? I mean I get it, I really do, but why the need to have these things brought to light in a dream. Can't i just dream about unicorns and cupcakes? It seems like the most profound moments I've had lately are happening in my dreams. You would think with all the over-thinking I do in a day, that I would have dreams about graph paper. Good Grief!
By the way, I am not really going to run away, but the thought does cross my mind every now and then... I didn't know i was even thinking about it, until I said today, What if I moved to San Antonio? And then I realized, that sub-consciously i HAVE been thinking about going far away. Why though? Life is good, I can't complain... but there are things of the heart that I am learning take a very long time to heal. I guess that is all part of growth, you need the time to heal and learn the lessons you need to learn before completely reaching the point when you are finally whole again. But sometimes running away seems more fun.
Hmmm... looks like I had a few things to say after all.

Holy Mole!

Last night I was invited over for Mole (pronounced Mole-ay) at my friend Sarah's. Her friend Francisco was making us and a bunch of other friends, traditional mole from his home land Mexico. The whole meal was delicious, and the mole was outstanding. Francisco said that traditional mole has about 32 ingredients including, chocolate and cinnamon. The base is sweet and you cook it in chicken. WOW! We also had refried beans and rice and this fantastic drink called horchata, which is a sweet rice, almond, cinnamon and sugar drink. Plus we had some fantastic Chilean wine. What a treat! After dinner we all sat around and watched the end of the packers\giants game... too bad packers, whaa whaa. As you can see i am NOT a fan! Sarah and Francisco almost have me convinced to go salsa dancing with them in the future... I don't know though, i might look like a spaz! :) But life is short, and not for sitting. And as Kevin Bacon once said in Footloose, "Let's Dance!"
Earlier in the day I had some mushrooms to use up, so i created this little mushroom and spinach dish... Many people I know are not fans of mushrooms. I wonder if they had them: a.) prepared right or b) some different varieties then basic canned mushrooms... possibly they would enjoy them more. But here is my spin on some button mushrooms:

TDC=Too Darn Cold!

So as mentioned in the previous posting, i had a whole night planned with my girlfriends. Well the fact of the matter is, is that sometimes the weather really does dictate what you can and cannot do. And admittedly, I would've taken driving in the snow last night, then running around in the cold. I can't believe i just said that! Anyway, cousin Kelly was out due to a bad cold :( and Cindy was at a convention, which left Shannon, Jaime and I set for a night on the town. We decided on pizza first at Dulono's which is always delish.... good laughs, Shannon had a blind date, Jaime had a goofy hair stylist lady, so we had lots to chat about. As it was time to leave, and as we opened the door to brave the cold once again. I stopped and said just as we were almost to the car, "How about we skip the museum and the wondrous punch and just go back to my place?" And I think as much as they wanted me to have a fun birthday night out, they were also thinking of my cozy apartment vs. frost bite. Coziness won out to craziness! Which was fine with me... because we had a nice time having snacks and talking into the night. So here is a pic of a night we had last weekend, and this is pretty much the same thing.

Speaking of good friends, I was reading my friend Diana's blog about her good friends, and it made me think about all my good friends. What a blessing it is to have not just one or two but a whole plethora of wonderful and amazingly kind friends. I prayed for good friends, and i think there is a verse that says something about double for your trouble... But I got double double double... God is good like that!

The Patriots are going to the Superbowl! Will Brady make it a 4th win? TBD! Also, watch for a special sports related blog edition of Superfluous that I will be posting soon: Is there a conspiracy against MN top players?

Oh Spring... Where art thou?

I think it's really cold outside today... I don't even want to check, because i think it is in the negatives... as in degrees! So here is a little taste of spring, to make us hopeful for all that is warm, cheery and bright.... Tulips! I saw these at the grocery store the other day and i couldn't resist! At least somewhere in the the world tulips are growing! Probably in Holland, those Dutch got it going on! (Right Diana!)

Tonight, I am going OUT! (so cold! brrrr) with my west side girls, Jaime & Shannon sans Cindy... (isnt that a song, East end boys and West side girls?) My cuz Kelly is going to join us and see how the H2oTown girls roll... The plan is the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Walker Art Center... I am a big fan of Frida, a bit bizarre yes, but colorful and deep also. Then we are hitting up my favorite pizza place Dulono's in my old Mpls neighborhood and then maybe a sip of Wondrous Punch at the Red Dragon... should be WONDROUS! Stay Warm!

Such a Lovely Day...

I must confess, I have never been big on celebrating my birthday. I tend to look at it as a much ado about nothing. But this year, for year 31, this has been the nicest birthday yet. I spent the first half of my day relaxing then meeting with my parents and brother for lunch. It was great to see them and have a good lunch. After that i headed home, because i had a lot to do. I planned a little party at my place. I wanted to have some of my favorite people over and make some yummy food. Everyone was commenting on how i had to make food for my own party... but making food for me is a gift, and I want to share this gift with everyone. So it's no big deal! It makes me happy! The best was the pad thai in individual cups! I must eat pad thai on my birthday! But the food is just an after thought, because it was the people that were there that made it so special! I had a whole home full of the greatest friends a girl could ever ask for! What a blessing! Plus well wishes from friends and family from afar! Which added to the sweetness!
Everyone wore party crowns, which actually went well with Megan, Sarah & Ellen's dresses, since they showed up in Bridesmaid dresses! My cousin Kelly got her hair cut that day, getting the new Katie Holmes cut! I love it!

All in all it was a great day and a fabulous night. What more could a girl ask for!
