I have missed the last two Tuesday With Dorie recipes. Although tonight, along with the lemon custard, I FINALLY made the Caramel Crunch Bars! YUM!
So not to miss 3 weeks in a row of TWD, I went ahead and made the Lemon Custard.
Now I really love lemon flavored anything so that was a bonus of making this recipe. But there were some detractors too...
I'm not a big custard fan, mainly because I don't drink dairy products. So i cut the recipe in half and made just enough to taste it and not feel bad about not eating it all.
I was very surprised at how lemony the milk got after letting it steep for awhile.
I baked my custard in some pretty coffee mugs, waiting until they were just jiggly in the middle (like my thighs) and set it out to cool.
I'm glad I made it because I've never made real custard before.
I think i will go eat another caramel crunch bar instead. MMMMMMMMM!!!!

Ok the eggy comments scared me and now you said it too I think I am skipping the lemaon custard.
Love the thighs comment I needed to LOL at 5am!
Ya I agree with you give me a caramel crunch bar instead! I love your coffee cups..so pretty!
I'm so glad you made the caramel crunch bars! They were fabulous. The lemon custard, not so much. At least we can say we tried it, right? Love those coffee cups!!!
LOVE your dishes!! I love everything black and white, where did you find those cups??? Too cute!
See, now I don't feel like I've missed out on anything. I love those coffee mugs!!
Your coffee cups are beautiful! I'm glad I didn't make this. I'm sure it would not be for me. On to next week!
Hahah those caramel crunch bars only get better as the days go on! Sorry you weren't a fan of the custard! Definitely indulge in some more bars!
"waiters bring them spinach custard, sheep add sugar, salt and mustard".
Name that book!
SHeep Out to Eat
Too easy.
I agree this was a venture in dexterity.
oh please.. i'm sure that jiggly thigh situation can be fixed. hehe.
Anyway, I'm glad you love the photos on the National Museum of Singapore I published on my blog. It's surprising and sweet at the same time that you've taken such a liking to the multi-cultural aspect of our society. I've grown rather numb to it actually. But thinking about it, it's really a miracle that the govt has gotten everything together with so many different races living in such a minimal space.
Is it like creme brulee?
uuuum, when you come over to visit (which could be any day, you pick!) you can totally bring something like this.
I'm kidding of course, but come over anyway.
I just read your comment at SCL and laughed out loud! I can just see you and your brother playing nurses!
Your cups are gorgeous.
I would much prefer the caramel crunch bars. Wish I had some right now!
i too love those cups. i like anything black and white. i agree about the whisking and the straining, that was tough. on to next week...
Yep, those are pretty cups! I'm behind on those bars too. If you liked them, I should make them to go along with the cake next week, right? I guess I'm an eggy person, cuz I liked the custard. It was light and smooth. Oh well, there are a few gazillion other recipes out there to bake. Yippee Good work even for a non-dairy girl.

OH yeah, I'll take another crunch bar, please. The custards were not really my thing, but it is always fun to try something new. Yours look so pretty in those cool cups!
Glad you tried it - looks great, even if it wasn't your favorite (or mine). Love the coffee mugs, too!
Good for you for trying the recipe. Loved the crunch bars.
Good that you at least tried. Sorry you didn't care for it. Custard ---love it or hate it. Love the cups and spoon and the custard looks yummy!
Good for you for making the custard, sorry you didn't like it. I read the P&Q's and decided to make the vanilla version and liked it. Love your cups and chinese spoon :)
