Sisterland Book Review

Image
I had an opportunity to read an advance copy of Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld  through NetGalley . I had read Sittenfeld's other book, Prep a few years ago and I was really looking forward to her newest novel.  Sisterland is a story about twin sisters, Kate & Violet who grow up and discover they have "senses" about future events. Kate tries to ignore these senses but Violet fully tries to embrace them.  Kate follows a traditional path of marriage and family while Violet lives on the fringe of society. Everything changes when one day Violet goes on the news to warn people about an impending earthquake that will take place in the future. While Violet doesn't know when this will happen, it's Kate who gets the confirmation on the date, much to her chagrin. This book is one of my new favorite books. It definitely keeps you on edge, wondering when the earthquake will happen. The whole book you are waiting to see the outcome of this huge event. But really

Wedding Memories...

I thought it would be fun to share my wedding day now that it has almost been 3 years. Tim and I got married on August 8, 2010 after being engaged almost 3 months. After we got engaged we were ready to get married. So no stopping us! I have always wanted an outdoor summer wedding, so we picked a date in August and we were off. I decided to keep costs down by DIYing almost the whole wedding. I made my own invitations, programs, treat bags for the candy buffet  decorations and even the handkerchief my husband wore in his pocket.  Location (church/outdoors/destination):  I knew I wanted an outdoor wedding, so I started looking at venues that were outdoors in beautiful locations. I wanted a very country\shabby chic\vintage feel, so when I found Gale Woods Farms , it was a done deal.  The ceremony was held outside overlooking a beautiful lake and the reception was held in the big barn.  Colors:  My colors were  Fuchsia , Gray & Yellow. The men wore gray suits with f

6 Months!

Deacon Elliott is half a year old! It's hard to believe that 6 months ago I was on hospital bed rest awaiting his arrival. He has been nothing but pure joy. Always smiling, talking, and loving life. He is slowly catching up on all the cool things 6 months olds do. And I am have "DUH" moments when I worry that he should be hitting a milestone and he isn't even close. Because had he been born on his due date (January 28th) he would only be 4 months old right now. DUH!  So he is just where he should be and we love him so much! Next month he has to have surgery to fix a birth defect. It's a simple procedure and he can go home the same day. But I do worry about my little guy having to go under and being away from me. He has been through a lot with being in the NICU and has proved to be a fighter, so I trust he will be just fine. He'll probably wake up smiling, as he does every time he gets up. He rocks! Love!

Peony Love

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I live 2 miles... YES, 2 MILES from the world's largest organic peony farm,  Swenson Gardens . Once a year in June they offer a walking tour of the peony garden, and of course I drove right on over. To say it was gorgeous, amazing, breathtaking, would be an understatement. I had a very peaceful time walking around and snapping pictures & smelling the blooms as I walked along the paths. They sold individual cut flowers to take home or you can also purchase plants now and pick them up, or have them shipped in the fall. I'm still trying to narrow down the plants I want.
