TWD~Lemon Cup Custard

I have missed the last two Tuesday With Dorie recipes. Although tonight, along with the lemon custard, I FINALLY made the Caramel Crunch Bars! YUM!
So not to miss 3 weeks in a row of TWD, I went ahead and made the Lemon Custard.
Now I really love lemon flavored anything so that was a bonus of making this recipe. But there were some detractors too...
I'm not a big custard fan, mainly because I don't drink dairy products. So i cut the recipe in half and made just enough to taste it and not feel bad about not eating it all.
I was very surprised at how lemony the milk got after letting it steep for awhile.
What i didn't like was trying to whisk the eggs and strain the milk at the same time. And trying not to scald myself with hot milk. I am not that talented so let's just say I made a big ol' mess.
I baked my custard in some pretty coffee mugs, waiting until they were just jiggly in the middle (like my thighs) and set it out to cool.

From what i tasted it had a nice lemon flavor, sans lemon extract, but it was very eggy. I do not like eggy. I read a lot of comments on TWD and many people said that this was an eggy custard. And they did not exaggerate.

I'm glad I made it because I've never made real custard before.
I think i will go eat another caramel crunch bar instead. MMMMMMMMM!!!!

Hahah those caramel crunch bars only get better as the days go on! Sorry you weren't a fan of the custard! Definitely indulge in some more bars!
"waiters bring them spinach custard, sheep add sugar, salt and mustard".

I agree this was a venture in dexterity.

oh please.. i'm sure that jiggly thigh situation can be fixed. hehe.

Anyway, I'm glad you love the photos on the National Museum of Singapore I published on my blog. It's surprising and sweet at the same time that you've taken such a liking to the multi-cultural aspect of our society. I've grown rather numb to it actually. But thinking about it, it's really a miracle that the govt has gotten everything together with so many different races living in such a minimal space.

Is it like creme brulee?
uuuum, when you come over to visit (which could be any day, you pick!) you can totally bring something like this.

I'm kidding of course, but come over anyway.

Yep, those are pretty cups! I'm behind on those bars too. If you liked them, I should make them to go along with the cake next week, right? I guess I'm an eggy person, cuz I liked the custard. It was light and smooth. Oh well, there are a few gazillion other recipes out there to bake. Yippee Good work even for a non-dairy girl.

OH yeah, I'll take another crunch bar, please. The custards were not really my thing, but it is always fun to try something new. Yours look so pretty in those cool cups!
