I personally felt like there was a lot of steps to making this gingerbread, with melting the chocolate and all... then later melting more chocolate to make icing. I dumped half a bowl of buttermilk on the floor... (no cat to lick it up anymore, whaa, whaa... oh wait, my cat wasn't allowed to eat dairy anyway) And then once the bread was done resting I couldn't get the darn thing out of the pan!!!! It was stuck to the bottom! So i pleaded and prodded with it and FINALLY I pulled it out of the pan with big chunks stuck to the bottom. Nice Sabro, Nice!
I was able to frost it and then let it set, and cut only about 6 nice pieces from the only part of the bread that wasn't deformed.
I thought it tasted pretty good. But the icing was STRONG! The coffee really came through. As we say in Minnesota OOOOFTA!
Overall I would say it's pretty tasty... but not my favorite Dorie recipe I've made.

It looks great. I skipped the coffee because I just thought it would be too much with the ginger. And I'm not much of a coffee fan, either. Well, at least you tried it. I was actually surprised that I liked this one as much as I did.
That is too funny. I couldn't even taste the coffee in mine. I wonder if my coffee wasn't strong enough. And your icing looks so smooth! I think it all looks fabulous, but I just wasn't excited about this cake for some reason.
Your cake looks so moist and wonderful!!!!
I'm not a huge coffee fan either, but I keep the coffee bags (that look like tea bags) in my freezer in case I want a quick cup. The coffee was really good in the frosting, but, I don't always like it in my baked goods.
wow.. your icing set pretty hard. It looks good though! Pity you didn't enjoy it that much! nvm.. there's still next week!
Your icing looks so smooth and tasty!! I wish I could take a bite:)
The icing was very strong, but I definitely think that the flavor mellowed out the next day! It looks delicious! Glad you made it!
Try that parchment paper..it will help your baked goods to slip right on out of the pan. Your gingerbread looks like mine!
I didn't put coffee in my icing.
I just didn't think that coffee and ginger would go together.
Mine also stuck in my pan, so I put it back in there and called it good.
Your gingerbread looks great. You can't tell it stuck to the pan.
After seeing all the chocolate ganaches on this cake today, I kinda wish I had made it... but on the other hand I'm really getting fed up with everything chocolate, lately.
Then again... if you'd invite me over for a cup 'o jo and a piece of that beautifuly iced cake of yours... I'd be there in a blast!
Very well done, Sabrina!
It seems many had problems with this sticking to the pan. The part you did save looks good.
I have a small favor the color of your font I cant see I have to highlight the text so I can read it! Can you make it darker for little ole me??
Looks delish to me:) BTW, I finally made it to the post office today. Look for your special something tomorrow perhaps.......:)
oooh, i just came back from NieNie's blog....did you send her that fabulous hat!!???
This looks awesome, Sabrina! I love ginger.
Beautiful job on the gingerbread! I would never had guessed you had problems with it sticking!
It sure does look tasty! Glad you decided to go for it.
Your cake looks amazing! I Also put off making mine until Monday night, and made an oops because I rushed it. Sorry it wasn't your favorite but it was fun to try.
Your gingerbread squares look so perfect, you'd never know you had issues getting it out of the pan. Glad you enjoyed it and hopefully it was worth the trip out in the January cold!
It looks yummy, though! My mom is from Hopkins. She says oofta all the time!!
Hey you dont need to publish this either! I do most of my surfing while at work and the background there is all white they have things blocked damn military, now that I am at home I see its a pretty red and yellow. Thank you for the font color change, now I can read to my hearts content!!
hi sabrina! ok, your gingerbread looks perfect--great job!
whenever you mention your kitty, i always get so sad for you. my cat got sick for the very first time this past weekend, and i was upset and so stressed out trying to make her confortable--i just love her so much :(
So glad to hear I wasn't the only one who struggled to get this little sucker out of the pan! Yours looks wonderful even if it wasn't your fav. ;)
i had a few issues getting it out of the pan too. at least you tried it and now you know... i give you credit for getting off the couch at 8 pm to go out in the cold to get 5 things from the store.
If you hadn't told us all your trouble, we would have never known. ;) They look great!
Sabrina,
would have never known you had a "schticking" problem. Looks so great! Sorry it didn't work for you. I totally understand. Thank you for stopping by for a chat.
AmyRuth
your squares look perfect! sorry you had sticking probs... i lined my pan with parchment and that definitely helped a lot.
Kudos for you for braving the weather to get what you needed to make these! That's the kind of commitment we like to see in our TWDers -- LOL!! Your gingerbread really looks great! This wasn't my favorite either. Funny, I didn't particularly notice the coffee in the icing -- I guess I was too busy getting knocked out by all that ginger?
OOOOOOFFF! that's a lot of ginger!
;)
I'm with you on the number of steps. But we did love it.
I skipped the icing. Thought there was enuff with just the gingerbread, which I liked - a lot... Sorry u were disappointed.
Looks great - just like the picture in the book. I agree about the steps, I forgot to melt the chocolate and then had to wait for it to cool.
