TWD~Kugelhopf

I have a love hate relationship with yeast! It all started when I worked in a kitchen at a crisis care facility in the mountains of New Hampshire. Almost everyday at one point in the day I had to make some sort of dinner rolls, and they all used yeast. Some days the yeast would rise beautifully. Other days it just fell flat. My friend Rachel always seemed to have the worst time with yeast. Go Pull Bread! Anyway, once i got the hang of using yeast, I could make just about any kind of dinner rolls and they were scrumpdilicious! That was over 10 years ago. Once i didn't have to make dinner rolls everyday, I stopped using yeast.
So here I am faced with the challenge of making Kugelhopf and I seem to be failing miserably. My dough is not rising. UGH!!!!! I lost my magic touch.
The one thing that got my undies in a bunch was that the recipe didn't call for me to proof the yeast first. That is all I've ever done and now, no proofing. I feel strange inside.
I do not own a Kugelhopf pan. I am using a bundt pan. I did not put raisins in the mix. I put dried currants and cinnamon chips. I'm still sitting here waiting for my dough to rise. I am going to go watch Gossip Girl. I'll be back. Gosh I hope i didn't just sound like the Terminator. But I do sometimes have an Austrian accent. And I love to Govern my kitchen.

So while I was watching GG I got inspired. To take pictures of myself artfully pretend sleeping and my cute pink shoes. And I broke one of my favorite pepper shakers. What is that they say, A broken bird in the hand is... well it's just that... a broken bird in the hand.

All while my Kugelhopf was doing this:
And then when that was done it looked like this:

And tasted like this:

Oh well, I tried. No more Kugelhopf for me.
I take that back, it didn't taste like cardboard. It was buttery and brioche-y. I just was expecting it to be sweeter. Like me, on a really good day.

I've never cooked with yeast before.

phew, that feels so much better. I've been keeping that secret my entire life. I feel so free, and ashamed.

I agree - not much taste for all that work. Love your pink shoes and the comparison to the boxes! You gave me my first smile of the morning! :)

Ha! Die birdie!! j/k I know you loves those things....

Mmm, well homz, if it's any consolation, photographically your dessert looks delish!!!
General rule of thumb: do not talk about yeast and undies in same post.

Funny...I just took out a store bought frozen loaf of bread dough so it can rise for dinner tonight...see I haven't touched yeast since leaving the mansion!

Megan is way too funny! haha! You are such the cook! I love to cook, but don't always have the patience. I have a pumpkin roll recipe that I love love love--but it is sooooo much work! So, I make the pumpkin bars instead and they never taste like cardboard! MMMMMmmmmmm--I'm sure your creation was delicious!! It would have been gone in 60 seconds in our house! :0)

Sorry about your broken bird.

I'm sorry you didn't like it.

We loved it, but I just didn't like all the waiting for the dough to raise.

I thought it was just "meh" as well.
Yum! Your kugelhopf looks so rich and buttery! I couldn't get my dough to rise the first time around so I proofed it the second time.

When you tire of the hot pink shoes on the far left, you can package them up in one of those cardboard boxes.......substitute those styrofoam noodles with lots of yummy cupcakes (frosting on the side) and ship them my way:)

Artsy pretend sleeping photos. Pretend sleeping is so much more attractive than actual sleeping and it's puddles of drool.

Sabrina-thanks for stopping by. Mine was disappointing...but I'll try again, sometime. Only with some serious additions in flavoring. I thought it a little underwhelming.
Loved your plate, shoes, self portraits, fun interest.
Score for you though, your Kugelhopf looked beautiful. Great work even if it didn't float your boat.

Did you feel violated after your photography self dated around on your muse self? Or did you end up going outside in your slip?

Yeaa for training! 10K's are fun, I've decided! :) Come and visit ANY time! Great pics--I watched GG and had a similar inspiration with pretty pathetic results...

I love your pretty pink shoes! Pink is my fav color but I have never dared to go solid pink in footwear. I wonder why not?

I know I was expecting sweeter too. I just sprinkled on more sugar!
