Summer 95'

I was just thinking about summer and how quickly it is approaching. I am highly anticipating a very wonderful summer. Which reminds me of the best summer of my life... Summer 95. I had just graduated from high school and found myself working at a YMCA camp. It truly was the best summer! Being outside all day running around, swimming, cook-outs, camping, road-trips, all with some of the coolest people i have ever met. I even found myself becoming best friends with a boy that later i fell in love with. We had some amazingly good times that summer. Being 18 and with high school behind me, I was free to have as much fun as i wanted to and so I did. All before having to face the "real world". I don't know if i will ever have a summer like that again, probably not in the same way, but i will and can still have some fun summers ahead of me. I love good memories, but they are also bitter sweet. I love remembering those happy moments, but the fact that i will never get them back makes me a bit sad... but not in a bad way, just in a way that reminds me that we really never can go back... only forward... hopefully with better things on the horizon and even more happy memory moments!
The boy that i mentioned early would sing me Dave Matthews Band songs (DMB was HUGE that summer!) and he would sing me this one particular one.... As I sit here listening to the lyrics, they still resonate...
The Best of What's Around
Hey my friend
It seems your eyes are troubled
Care to share your time with me
Would you say you're feeling low and so
A good idea would be to get it off your mind
See you and me
Have a better time than most can dream
Have it better than the best
So we can pull on through
Whatever tears at us
Whatever holds us down
And if nothing can be done
We'll make the best of what's around
Turns out not where but who you're with
That really matters
And hurts not much when you're around
And if you hold on tight
To what you think is your thing
You may find you're missing all the rest
Well she ran up into the light surprised
Her arms are open
Her mind's eye is
Seeing things from a
Better side than most can dream
On a clearer road I feel
Oh you could say she's safe
Whatever tears at her
Whatever holds her down
And if nothing can be done
She'll make the best of what's around.

Summer of '95 was a good one! I bought a guitar that summer and played it until my fingers were bloody and raw. I started a band as well, but it didn't last too long. The best days of my life.

For realsie though, that's the summer I met Megan. First date: rollerblading and frozen yougurt!

DMB was also huge. He played at Luther twice in '96 and '99. It was kind of a big deal then, although I don't really listen to his music anymore. Looking forward to helping you move!

MR.SOS will you be wearing your cool goggles!!! I think you need them for moving, pre-requisite! I think i also have a few tiaras left from the birthday party! HOT!
(bummer about your eyes though)
Hey Mr. SoS, I remember that summer. Too bad Jimmy quit and Jodi got married, I thought you guys would get far! No use in complaining, I guess.

BTW, thanks for the frozen yogurt...guess that was money well spent.

I just barfed in my mouth.
You should really spit that out, Sabro! Lots of acidity and bacteria.
